Nicholas is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, and is a part of UCF’s Accelerated BS to MS program. He is interested in aerospace materials research and is a part of the MIS team. He is a National Merit Scholar, and a member of AIAA, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Golden Key International Honour Society. His hobbies include 3D printing, tabletop RPG’s, and playing guitar. He joined the lab in Spring 2019.

Terrence received his Bachelor in Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in Fall 2020. He joined the lab in Summer 2020. He is interested in structures and materials, and suitably joined the CMAS team. He has 2 years of technical internship experience with various engineering companies including: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Sparton Defense and Security. Additionally, he is proudly serving in the United States Air Force Reserve as an RF Transmissions Technician. His hobbies include woodworking, tinkering, fishing, and working out.

Ryan received his Bachelor in Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2020. He joined the lab in Spring 2015. He worked with the lab’s ALOX team, researching the use of alumina particles for non-destructive stress and damage detection in composite and metallic materials for various aerospace applications. He is a member of UCF’s AIAA and ASME student engineering organizations. His hobbies include drawing and swimming.

Matt received a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Space Systems Design and Engineering in December 2019. He completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2016 at UCF, then worked for two years as a design engineer at American Civil Engineering Company in Orlando before deciding to devote his time to research and to pursue a graduate degree in the Aerospace field. He is interested in orbital and structural mechanics as well as materials science. He joined the lab in Fall 2016 as an undergraduate studying CMAS effects on TBCs, then rejoined in Spring 2018 to work on PS-PVD TBCs. In his free time, he enjoys listening to fictional audiobooks, traveling, and playing sports.

Lin joined the lab as an undergraduate in the spring of 2016. She was part of the 2016 field team that conducted synchrotron x-ray diffraction studies of additively manufactured superalloys for high-temperature applications at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). As part of this work, she developed a novel method of obtaining images for digital image correlation at high temperature. She spent 10 weeks in the summer of 2017 conducting research in Cologne, Germany in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as part of the IRES program. She returned to ANL as part of the 2018 field team, using the synchrotron to study the properties of thermal barrier coatings for high-temperature applications. Thanks to a Fulbright award, she returned to DLR in Cologne for 10 months, from September 2018 to July 2019, continuing her research in thermal barrier coatings. She received a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering in Summer 2019.

Sanjida received her Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Space Systems Design and Engineering. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 2013 from the Military Institute of Science & Technology in Bangladesh. Sanjida gained 2 years of professional experience as an Aircraft Maintenance Planning Engineer in an airline in Bangladesh. She worked as a GTA at UCF and joined the Raghavan Research Group in the Fall 2016 semester. She worked on non-destructive techniques to characterize HCFRPs and improving their use for the aerospace industry. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading space/spacecraft articles, biking and traveling.

Albert Manero

Albert completed his Ph.D in fall 2016 while working on advanced aerospace materials for space craft and turbine blade protection systems. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering in May 2014. Albert is a Fulbright Scholar and is conducting research at the German Aerospace Center. He is also a member of AIAA , The American Ceramic Society, and Sigma Gama Tau.

Alex was an undergraduate student who graduated with Honors in the Major after completing an undergraduate thesis titled “Characterization of Dispersion and Residual Stress in Nanoparticle Reinforced Hybrid Carbon Fiber Composites.” Portions of this work were presented at the 2017 SciTech Conference. He joined the group in Fall 2013 and has since coauthored several papers. Alex Selimov graduated from UCF in Fall of 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Gregory Freihofer
Gregory joined the group in Summer 2009 as an Aerospace Engineering student interested in pursuing higher education in aerospace materials. As a student, he was a Member of Progress Energy Leadership Institute, and the National Scholars Society. Enthusiastic about learning and spreading the knowledge of science, he is a fan of Carl Sagan and his documentary “The Cosmos”. An avid runner, keeps in shape as a future Olympic sprinter prospect. As a graduate student, he spent summer 2012, 2013 and 2014 at Boeing Research & Technology in Seattle collaborating on research. He graduated with a Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering in spring 2010 and Masters in Fall 2011 and a PhD in Summer 2014. Greg continued working at UCF as a post doctoral associate for several months before starting to work at Northrop Grumman in June 2015.

As a graduate student he worked on high temperature coatings and conducted several novel research experiments at the Advanced Photon Source in Argonne National Laboratory. He enjoys playing sports. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in Summer 2014.

Erik joined the team in the Summer of 2011 as an undergraduate researcher and then as a graduate Aerospace Engineering student participating in the BS-MS program. He worked on research studying the load transfer in alumina-epoxy materials. As a student he participated in SGT, AIAA and ASME and his hobbies include music, specifically drums. He was also an intern at Aerospace Corp. Erik graduated in Summer 2014 with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering.

Imad is an undergraduate mechanical engineering student. He is interested in aerospace materials and composite research, and is currently pursuing an Honors in the Major Thesis regarding a hybrid carbon fiber composite for advanced sensing. Imad also had the opportunity to conduct research at the Canadian Light Source, and at Purdue University. Imad’s hobbies include playing the piano and cooking. He joined the team in the Summer of 2013 and graduated with an honors in the major thesis in Spring 2015.
