Dr. Quentin Fouliard is the very first Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering of the University of Central Florida, awarded in December 2019 with his dissertation “Characterization of Rare-earth Doped Thermal Barrier Coatings for Phosphor Thermometry“. Quentin has made significant contributions towards the development of novel optical measurement methods and instrumentation for luminescent thermal barrier coatings for optimized gas turbine engine operation. Quentin is the lead researcher on a DOE UTSR project that focuses on the advancement of instrumentation methods for temperature and stress monitoring in extreme environments. Quentin joined the lab in Fall 2016 and has been the lab manager since Spring 2017. Quentin has been a Teaching Assistant for the Senior level class Analysis and Design of Aircraft Structures and the Burnett Honors College class of Dynamics at UCF. In the Summer of 2015, he worked in Dr. Raghavan’s Research Group as a visiting researcher, taking part in the Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer project. He earned a Master’s degree in 2016 in Materials Science Engineering from the École Polytechnique de l’Université de Nantes (Polytech Nantes), France, with partial credits obtained at the University of Seville, Spain. He also worked in industry in 2016 as a Design and Manufacturing Engineer at UNILASER, near Seville, Spain, an aerospace subsidiary specialized in 3D laser cutting and welding. Quentin is passionate about planes, astronomy and he loves traveling and learning new languages.
